Baculovirus infection affects caterpillar chemoperception

چکیده

Baculoviruses are double-stranded DNA entomopathogenic viruses that infect predominantly insects of the order Lepidoptera. Research in last decade has started to disentangle mechanisms underlying insect-virus interaction, particularly focusing on effects baculovirus infection host's physiology. Among crucial physiological functions, olfaction a key role reproductive tasks, food source detection and enemy avoidance. In this work, we describe Spodoptera exigua multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (SeMNPV) induces expression changes some odorant receptors (ORs) - centrepiece insect's when infecting larvae from its natural host (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Different ORs up-regulated after SeMNPV infection, two them, SexiOR35 SexiOR23, were selected for further functional characterization by heterologous empty neurons Drosophila melanogaster coupled single-sensillum recordings. appears be broadly tuned receptor able recognise different chemical compounds. although correctly expressed neurons, did not display any significant response panel 58 stimuli. Behavioural experiments revealed infected exhibit altered olfactory-driven behaviour diet it is supplemented with plant volatiles linalool or estragole, main ligands, supporting hypothesis viral triggers perception through level specific ORs.

Caterpillar compaction

Caterpillar compaction NA compaction, say Ryan Case, YunPei Chang, Nicholas Cozzarelli, Carlos Bustamante, and colleagues (University of California, Berkeley, CA), may work via a cooperative caterpillar-like mechanism. The caterpillar is formed by multiple copies of condensin protein—in this case MukBEF—with each V-shaped condensin contributing two legs. Compaction occurs when the caterpillar’s...

Protocols for Oral Infection of Lepidopteran Larvae with Baculovirus

Baculoviruses are widely used both as protein expression vectors and as insect pest control agents. This video shows how lepidopteran larvae can be infected with polyhedra by droplet feeding and diet plug-based bioassays. This accompanying Springer Protocols section provides an overview of the baculovirus lifecycle and use of baculoviruses as insecticidal agents, including discussion of the pro...

Caterpillar Tolerance Representations

Various families of tolerance graphs of subtrees for specific families of host trees and tolerance functions have been successfully characterized. For example, chordal graphs are intersection (tolerance 1) graphs of subtrees of general trees, see [2], [5], and [8]. Intersection graphs of subtrees of a path are those that are chordal and do not contain an asteroidal triple, see [7]. We denote by...

A mathematical model of baculovirus infection on insect cells at low multiplicity of infection.

The expression efficiency of the insect cells-baculovirus system used for insecticidal virus production and the expression of medically useful foreign genes is closely related with the dynamics of infection. The present studies develop a model of the dynamic process of insect cell infection with baculovirus at low multiplicity of infection (MOI), which is based on the multi-infection cycles of ...
